Happy 2016!!!!!! Time to get to work!

Petersen Auto Museum

Hopefully all of you have spent sometime reflecting on the last year and have put some thought into what your goals are for 2016.  This is the moment where we start to take that first step and look to the future.   The true secret to accomplishing any goal is to first know where you want to go, and start taking little steps to get there everyday. That is it. Something so simple but yet so hard to do at times.

As we "go for it" in 2016 here some helpful tips that help get all of us where we want to go.

1. Try and do *one thing* related to your goal everyday!  Weather that is watching a tutorial on the subject, working onphoto processing, doing some location scouting, making that cold call to potential clients to find new business,  reaching out to someone you respect for help that guide you, or even spending some time thinking about what to do next.  Do "something" everyday.

2. Understand achieving your goal is going to be a slow process. Success doesn't come over night. It happens by deliberate steps that add up over time.

3. If you have a bad day or experience struggle, understand that is part of it.  Every goal worth pursuing is going to involve struggle. It's the people that don't understand this that give up and never accomplish their dreams.  Try and accept that it is going to be hard but so worth it.

4.  Take a minute and try and enjoy what your learning or where the journey is taking you.  As you walk down the path you may be surprised by where it takes you so try and enjoy it rather then stressing about getting to where your going.

5.  It is ok to change your mind, adjust your goals, and start again.   As you pursue something you may find out that you actually don't enjoy it as much as you thought, or discover something else along the way that feels better to you.  It is ok to adjust as you go.  The point is that your going somewhere, and that is more important then the destination.

All right lets make 2016 the best year yet!  Let's get to work!!!!

Introducing Patrick

You might have noticed that I have been a little MIA lately. I haven't posted any new pictures or blogged about any recent trips to far away countries. No, I have been sticking close to home the last few months, and for good reason. My wife and I have been expecting our first child, a son, named Patrick.

I'm very happy to announce that Patrick has finally arrived and Jenn and I couldn't be more excited to be parents. Our little boy has brought so much more joy into our lives than we ever thought possible.

In the effort to savor every moment I made this video to capture this very special time in our lives.

500px Front Page

Amazing surprise this morning. I made it on the front page of 500px!!! What a huge honor! So blessed to be included around such amazing photographers! Plus I'm number one in my category, "City and Architecture". If you have a second go check out my photo, pretty cool to see it up there!

The Trip Begins!

I made it safely to Vegas tonight and enjoyed an awesome lightening storm on my drive through the desert. In fact by the time I checked into our room at the Vdara there was an awesome light show right from our room. My brother ended up getting here late so we are a little behind schedule. In fact its 2:28am and I should really be in bed. Its going to be an early start tomorrow.

Signing off.......

Heading to Zion and Antelope Canyon this week!

I'm off on a photo adventure this week with my triplet brother, Jon, to some amazing locations! On the itinerary is Zion National Park, the beautiful Antelope Canyon, and Horseshoe Bend Canyon.

The main purpose of this trip is to have an adventure with my triplet brother Jon before he gets married in a couple months, but also to do something we both love together, photography! For the first time together, this trip will be all about the photography. It will be just us, our cameras, and some beautiful places! I can't be more excited.

When I planned this trip for us I really wanted to have the chance to share all I have learned over the last several months with my bro and really have a "meeting of the like minds" to push and grow each other. Some of the things we will be experimenting with on this trip are:

  1. Experimenting with Lee Filters on location: Trying out a new set of Soft/Hard ND filters, as well as a new Singh-Ray Neutral Polarizer. I'm really going to try and see if I can do it like the pros out there and see what I can come up with. My work has been evolving more and more towards a natural look so I'm hoping that this new set of tools really helps that become more successful. Will see.
  2. Post Processing Techniques Including: LR Enfuse, Photomatix 32bit Tiff, HDR EFEX Pro 2, and Luminance Mask Blending in CS6. These are just a few of the new tools I have been experimenting with over the last several months. The most exciting of which is the new photomatix 32bit tiff plug-in for Lightroom 4! I just got a hold of this this week and I can honestly say that this is truly a game changer for me. Run! Don't Walk and check this out! totally unbelievable!

I'm going to try and blog some during this trip, hopefully once a night if possible so be sure to check out my blog if you want to follow along. Fall color's should be peaking at Zion this week as well so we couldn't have timed this more perfectly.  Wish us luck!

This trip is brought to you by our sponsors (Not really- I don't have any sponsors, but if you want to sponsor me let me know! hehe) Subaru Forester, our adventure car of choice, Patagonia Capilene 2 base layers, REI eVent Rain Gear, Trader Joes- hiking snacks, and coffee from Starbucks, without which would not make this trip possible. ALSO to my amazing wife Jennifer and Jon's fiancée Amy for encouraging us to get away for the weekend.

Special Announcement!

Notre Dame Street Art Sellers

Well Folks..... I have a special announcement.

I know I usually just post pictures on this blog but that is about to change. Why you ask? Is it because a meteor hit my head and all of a sudden my dyslexic brain is faster at writing then it was before.....well no...but It's actually because I have some good news. My wife and I are going to EUROPE for the first time together in a couple weeks! YAYAYAY

What does this mean for you all? More beautiful pictures from Joshua Gunther photography from beautiful places like London and France! Yay....I am so stoked.

But before that happens, like most trips I go on, the boy scout in me forces me to be prepared. So naturally I have a lot to do to get ready for Europe if I'm going to go and get some of these awesome pictures so I thought would share my journey with the world just in case someone might be listening.

So over the next few weeks we are going to be talking about exciting topics like. Tripods, camera safety, Bags, Camera Straps, and whatever else I'm thinking as I try and get ready for this awesome adventure. Hopefully I can share some useful information with you all and we can learn together!

yay so Stoked!!!! Stay tuned!!!

First Ever Gallery Show

First Ever Gallery Show, originally uploaded by Joshua Gunther.

I am super stoked to announce that for the first time ever I am publicly displaying some of my photography. You don't know how excited, joyful, humbled, and a little scared I am to be doing this for the first time. Its been an amazing journey getting to this point and I can't wait to see what this little leap of faith will bring into my life.

I have had so much fun with photography over the last year and its just such a JOY to be able to share it with other people in this way. My only hope is that these five photo's will positively affect all who see them in some small way over the next several weeks.

If you happen to live in LA and want to check them out. My work is hanging in the Church Cafe at Bel Air Presbyterian Church, Los Angeles California.

Also if you wish to check out the five Photo's that I'm displaying on my flickr stream, check out the link below
