I was on top of a parking garage taking some other shots when I saw this location from afar. All I needed to do was walk up this dirt hill and get close to the on-ramp of the 110 free way that runs through down town. It was my perfect chance to get some LA traffic shots at blue hour.
As I started up the hill I came around the corner of a tree and almost ran into a homeless guy getting comfortable for the night. I quickly apologized for sneaking up on him and kept going up the hill to get my shots. Once I was done I started down the hill towards the gentleman again and he asked me if I got anything good? I said yes, stopped, and showed him a few on the back of my camera. He was smoking something, and thumbing through a porn magazine while he checked them out and then asked me if I was using a Canon or Nikon? I said Canon! He quickly and confidently said oh I like Nikon better, they are better cameras! I spent the next 5 minutes having a very wonderful conversation about the differences and experiences with both, it was so awesome! To be honest I would have never expected this kind of conversation from a homeless person! I enjoyed it so much!
It really reminded me to never judge a book by its cover! You never know what someone might bring to the table if your just willing to strike up a good conversation! :)
