Sydney Harbor Bridge- Observatory Hill

Sydney Harbor Bridge- Observatory Hill

It was our 4th day in Sydney! Jenn and I had spent the day doing a bus tour out to the Blue Mountains and after a long day of site seeing we were tired. But, I pushed myself not to miss blue hour so I headed out to Observatory Hill.

It was a beautiful spot and I spent about an hour watching people enjoy picnics and romantic moments with their loved ones while the sunset. It was wonderful.

Have you ever had those moments when you just sit and try to take it all in? The smells, the sounds, contemplating all you had seen that day, and the hope of what might be around the corner tomorrow? I did a lot of that in this spot, contemplation this wonderful adventure I was on and just trying to take it all in.......

How this shot was made: Canon 5D mkII, 70-200mm f4L IS lens 70mm F9, ISO 320, at 13sec (Base Exposure)

5 Bracketed exposures (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) taken on location. Exported 5 exposures to HDRlabs 32bit tiff plugin to combine into 32bit floating point tiff. Lightroom adjustments on the 32bit tiff to get it as close to final as I could but it still had some issues. Adjusted -1 exposure in Lightroom in preparation to fix an over exposure in the upper left of the photo(Luna Park was blown out) Also adjusted +1 exposure which had the light trails in it. Next , I took the base exposure, -1, +1 into CS6 to do some digital blending. I used the -1 to fix the over exposure of Luna Park, and I used the +1 exposure, set to "Lighten" to fix issues of ghosting of the light trails from the 32bit tiff image. I also did spot cleanups as well. Saved back into Lightroom for final adjustments and slight color correction in Lightroom to finish.
