I had seen this location several times online and really wanted to check it out and grab a picture of it myself. I honestly didn't really know much about it other then knowing the address so the other night I headed out into Hollywood to see what I would find. Little did I know Yamashiro is actually a restaurant that sits on top of a hill in Hollywood. The only way to get in is actually by valet for a private parking lot. Having no cash and really only wanting a picture of downtown I left and drove around the block (or rather around the hill it sits on) looking for another place to park. Finding nothing and just about to give up I rather desperately explained to the valet at the gate that I was a photographer and really just wanted to take a quick photo of downtown. Bracing for the usual "no way" without hesitation she said, "OK!, just tell the valet at the top and he will help you out"!
Without hesitation I put my car in drive and speed up to the top before she had a chance to change her mind. I was greeted by the valet at the top and explained my story and he said" Ya sure just park right here off to the side and grab your picture! Just don't stay too long" I was SHOCKED!
I am so often confronted by the "photography police" that I often just don't even think to ask! This taught me a valuable lesson and was a good reminder that it never hurts to "Just Ask" and see what happens! :O)
